1940
April 26: TEAL registered in Wellington as a Limited Liability Company, Original holdings, New Zealand Government 20 percent, Union Airways 19 percent, BOAC 38 percent and Qantas 23 percent. The board reports to the Tasman Air Commission which itself reports to the New Zealand, Australian and British Governments.
April 30: Inaugural Auckland - Sydney flight by ZK-AMA, Aotearoa, then weekly. First service commanded by Captain J.W. Burgess with 10 passengers.
May 2: First Flight returns from Sydney
August: TEAL increases frequency of its Auckland - Sydney service to three times a fortnight.
1941
March 31: The first annual report reveals that 130 trans Tasman flights have completed 174,200 miles flown and 1461 passengers carried. The first year realises a profit, before taxation and dividend of £31,379.
1942
During the year ending 31 March 1942 TEAL undertakes several special charter and reconnaissance flights to New Caledonia, Fiji, Samoa and Hawaii to assit the war effort.
1944
TEAL now operates three return flights per week across the Tasman.
June: The 1000th crossing of the Tasman
1946
July 17: TEAL takes delivery of the first of its Tasman Class Sandringham flying boats, ZK-AMB, Tasman. Delivery flight commanded by BOAC Senior Captain B. Tavers from London to Sydney, and TEAL Senior Captain A.V. Jury from Sydney to Auckland.
December 16: First information and sales office opens in Auckland at Mechanics Bay.
